Collection: Deep House

There probably aren’t many more appropriately named music genres than deep house. We’re not just talking about the name describing the sound. Deep house is deep on more than one level. It originated in Chicago (where else?) in the early 80’s. Several substreams of house were already booming when deep house came with a new approach. Slower, less beat heavy but with surprising influences from other genres. It was a cocktail that had success written all over it. It soon conquered dance floors all over the world.

Contrary to other styles of house and music styles in general, deep house has proved it is here to stay. It’s both classic and contemporary, thanks to the many influences from other genres. The music introduced new kinds of vocals to the house industry. The use of soul, jazz and even gospel vocals definitely wasn’t common until the music had its breakthrough. It weren’t just the vocals that gave house a new sound: soulful and melodic samples made it appeal to a broader audience than most other house styles. Because it was more accessible and highly danceable, house music branched out to a new audience, while keeping the old school enthusiasts aboard.
